Machinery Corporation (MACORP) of Guyana Limited officially launched the 10th edition of their Open Golf Championship yesterday at their Providence, East Bank of Demerara headquarters.
The event which is slated to commence on Saturday, November 12th and conclude the following day, will be staged at the Lusignan Golf Course on the East Coast of Demerara.
Several divisions which are expected to attract over 50 players, will be featured inclusive of 0-9 handicap, 10-18 and 19-36 Men’s sections while the women will compete separately. The top three finishers in each section will be awarded prizes.
Similarly, prizes will also be awarded for several feats inclusive of nearest to the pin and best gross.
Chief Executive Officer of MACORP Jorge Medinas during brief remarks said “For MACORP, we are pleased to have this tournament and we are into the 10th year sponsoring this event”.
Medinas revealed “I remember long ago when we had the previous club house and it was the first tournament that I participated and I said “we need to start sponsoring this”.
According to Medinas, the relevant stakeholders should ensure the development of the sport at various levels, adding that the Lusignan Facility must be targeted for international accreditation as an 18-hole venue so that it can be used as a tool for tourism.
Oncar Ramroop, President of the Lusignan Golf Facility thanked the company for their support, noting “I’m extremely proud to say that I don’t view MACORP as a sponsor, we view MACORP as a partner and we are extremely happy to have this relationship and it’s one that I am confident will grow from strength to strength”.
