Two men armed with guns held up a group of six friends who were socialising at a Bagotsown, East Bank Demerara house and robbed them of a quantity of cash and cellular phones on Thursday night.
Stabroek News learnt that the robbery at the home of Ganesh Kissoon of Water Street, Bagotstown, lasted an estimated 8 minutes.
Kissoon yesterday told Stabroek News that he was returning from the washroom around 11 pm
when one of the gunmen pounced on him and instructed that he lie on the ground.
The second bandit then went into the house and demanded that his five friends hand over their valuables. Fearful for their lives, Kissoon said, his friends complied after the bandit threatened to shoot. The bandit ran through the pockets of the men and relived them of their cellular phones and a total of $70,000.
Kissoon said that after the bandit in the house completed his task, the one guarding him escorted him into the house, where he was also robbed of his phone and $15,000. During the robbery Kissoon was gun-butted to his head after he challenged the men.
The men then asked for the house keys, he said, but he told them he did not know where they were and they left, pulling in the door behind them.
The men wore makeshift masks made out of rags and t-shirts. Asked about suspects, Kissoon said he recognised the voice of one of the men and his suspicious were later confirmed by residents who saw the men removing off their masks.
He said he and his friends were drinking alcohol and playing cards when they were attacked.
They have made a report at the Providence Police Station.
