Plantation Hope man still semi-conscious week after accident

A week after Dennis Bissoon, of Plantation Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was struck down on the Cove and John ECD public road, he remains in a semi-conscious state at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Last Sunday night, Bissoon was crossing the road when an allegedly speeding motor vehicle struck him down on the Cove and John Public Road.

According to his sister Tetri Bissoon, her brother hasn’t spoken a word or opened his eyes since the accident.  She explained that the doctor told the family that Dennis suffered a fractured skull on the right side and is bleeding on the left side of the brain. She noted that they are currently feeding him through a tube. She went on to explain that a second CT scan was done on her brother and the results showed that he is not responding to the medication.

Stabroek News was told by the sister that the driver of the PSS 4035 motor car appeared in court and was placed on bail.

The driver, Suresh Chumandhat 31, of Mahaica on Thursday was slapped with three traffic charges which stated that he failed to stop after an accident was committed, failed to render assistance, and failed to report an accident. He was placed on $50,000 bail when he appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s court. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is expected to return on December 14th.

A police source told Stabroek News that no dangerous driving charge was instituted since the victim is unable to give a statement.
