A father and son are hospitalised following a chopping incident on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway which resulted from a misunderstanding between the two.
Stabroek News was told that the father, Patraj Singh, was under the influence of alcohol when the chopping occurred around 8 pm on Sunday.
Singh’s wife explained that their neighbour was making insulting remarks towards her husband and threatening to beat him.
She said that while the neighbour continued “provoking” her husband, her son, Jamal Jainarine, entered their home. As he opened the door, she said, Singh pulled a cutlass that was nearby and “fire a chop”, wounding Jainarine. “He thought was the neighbour,” she added.
“After my son see the blood, he pick up a cutlass and chop him back and dem two had a scramble,” the wife continued.
She said she tried to separate them, but they overpowered her and she ran out the house and sought help.
Neighbours responded and they were both rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they received medical attention. One neighbour told Stabroek News that Singh was badly chopped about his body and bled profusely on his way to the hospital.
Stabroek News was told that the men were admitted to the hospital where they are being treated.
