The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) made a donation to the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) on Friday ahead of the Caribbean Development Tournament to be held in Barbados next month.
During a simple ceremony at Olympic House, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer of the GOA, Dion Nurse presented a cheque worth $500,000 to president of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle to help offset expenses incurred by the teams attending the December 9-13 event.
Nurse along with GOA’s Secretary, Garfield Wiltshire, wished the team success on their quests to represent the Golden Arrowhead.
Ninvalle expressed gratitude to the GOA for their show of support but in the same breath noted that the association is still in the red by approximately two million dollars.
“We are still out by another two million to get the team to Barbados and accommodate them. We have sent out a letter to the National Sports Commission and we are awaiting word on other corporate sponsors.”
Ninvalle then reasoned, “If that fails then we will have to go in order of priority.”
The GBA head also reminded that there is another team heading east of the border to Suriname later this month to represent Guyana.
