The Guyana Beverage Company Incorporated (Inc.) under their Fruta brand extended their long standing partnership with the Conquerors Football Club of Tucville, by donating an undisclosed sum last week at a simple presentation ceremony at their Diamond Headquarters.
The relationship which dates back to 1997, was renewed for another year in the presence of club executives, players and coaches.
Mark Telting, General Manager of Company during the feature address said, “It’s a great moment to renew the contract which was done after intense negotiation. Next year will be the twentieth anniversary and it could not be more beautiful so I am really glad to continue the relationship”.
According to Telting, “We are very happy to promote and strengthen our brand alongside developing the club. Our brand will benefit from the experience of the club, it’s a real grassroots club that have real supporters and develop their own players”.
Recently appointed club President Alex Bunbury, speaking via an internet call during the ceremony, said the club’s development would not be possible without the investment from the beverage giant, and expressed his hopes for the partnership to continue to grow for many years, as it would be beneficial to both parties.
According to Bunbury, his vision for the club, is to create a world class organization that is, the best not only in the country, but in the region, adding, “I am 100 percent behind everything we are trying to accomplish in youth development, which is the future and is very important, and also will act as the feeder system to our senior team”.
Bunbury declared that Jeremy Garrett, whose is slated for a nine day training stint with Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, is a testament of the club’s tradition, revealing that the famed Portuguese giant wants to be affiliated with the organization, which is tremendous news for the team and the country
Fruta Conquerors in conjunction with the Beverage giant, officially launched their inaugural U19 Championship. The event which will be branded by Turbo Energy Drink, and will be dubbed the Fruta Conquerors Academy League.
Guyana Football Federation (GFF) executive Dion Inniss said the federation is pleased to be see Fruta Conquerors stepping forward to fill the void that exists in youth development football and that the federation is more than happy to partner with the club to ensure the event is successful.
He added the club is an example which the GFF hopes that other clubs will emulate in terms of organizing football tournaments, since Conquerors is the premier team in youth development, and has produced some of the best players at the national level for the past decade.
The league will consist of 12 teams divided into two groups of six, with nine teams from the Georgetown area, alongside Linden’s Botofago, West Demerara’s Uitvlugt and East Coast of Demerara’s Buxton United. Prudential Tech and Oasis Water are also sponsors of the tournament.
The event kicks off today at 5.00 pm, at the Tucville ground. In the first match Eastville will play Tavelle’s Academy, while Pele will tackle the hosts in the second game.
