An East La Penitence resident was yesterday granted his release on $150,000 bail after he denied that he broke and entered a home and stole over $6 million in property.
The courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan heard that between March 11th and March 16th, at Lot 53 Eastern Highway, Lamaha Gardens, Kenny Jones, 39, of Lot 4 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, broke and entered the home of Dale Abbott and stole an air conditioning unit, a generator set, lighting fixtures, a hot water heater, a dining table set, a kitchen counter set and other articles, totaling $6,047,000 in value. Jones, who was represented by attorney Adrian Thompson, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Thompson told the court that Jones was surprised that a break and enter larceny charge was read to him as he knew nothing about the crime. According to the lawyer, his client’s ex-wife and her mother were in police custody for the stolen property. He said that Jones’ ex-wife told the police that the stolen property was his and as a result he was later charged for the offence. Thompson said that his client has denied the allegations that he broke into another man’s house and stole several articles.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, who did not object to Jones receiving bail, told the court that the accused should have conditions attached to his release.
As a result, Chief Magistrate McLennan granted Jones his release on bail and ordered that he report to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost every last Friday of the month until the completion of trial. The matter was adjourned until December 19th.
