A man was yesterday morning arrested shortly after he robbed a Venezuelan national of a quantity of cash and other valuables at a hotel in Charity, Essequibo.
The incident occurred around 3 am yesterday while the victim was standing in the hotel’s lounge. He was relieved of his wallet containing US$5,200, his passport and a Samsung Galaxy cellular phone.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement issued on the incident said enquiries have disclosed that the 32-year-old victim was standing in the hotel lounge when he was approached by the suspect who relieved him of his wallet containing the valuables.
The suspect managed to escape. However, a report was made and quick responses by the police led to the arrest of the suspect. Part of what was stolen—US$2,600 and the cell phone—was recovered.
The man was taken into custody and is likely to be charged soon.
