Shomari Wiltshire was crowned the Category-A champion while Makeda Harding clinched the Category-B title when the Farfan and Mendes Junior Squash Championship concluded yesterday at the Georgetown Club Facility.
Wiltshire brushed aside Taylor Fernandes in straight sets 11 – 6, 11 – 5, 11 – 6 to walk-away with the accolade. On the other hand, Harding overcame Rebecca Low 5 – 11, 11 – 4, 11 – 5, 11 – 7.
In other results, Alex Cheeks bested Anthony Islam 13 – 11, 11 – 3, 11 – 4 in the Category-A section while Gianni Carpenter defeated Maya Collins 12 – 10, 11 – 9, 11 – 8 in Category-B.
Michael Alphonso claimed the Category-C championship, defeating Demetrius De Abreu 11 – 5, 9 – 11, 11 – 8, 11 – 7. Ethan Jonas secured the third spot after edging Lucas Jonas 11 – 5, 13 – 11, 11 – 9.
In Category-D, Madison Fernandes squeaked past Kirsten Gomes 12 – 10, 7 – 11, 11 – 6, 5 – 11, 12 – 10 to clinch the division while Aliyah Persaud defeated Jason Gomes 11 – 7, 9 – 11, 11 – 4, 11 – 6.
Meanwhile, James Mekdeci downed Zachary Persaud 11 – 3, 11 – 5 to secure the Category-E title.
In Category-F, Liam Carpenter was crowned the champion after he defeated Chad De Abreu 11 – 5, 11 – 9. Also Nicholas Verwey defeated Shiloh Asregado 11 – 8, 11 – 6 and Louis da Silva defeated Mikhail Persaud 11 – 8, 11 – 9 in the other results of the section.
Jahcinta Adams claimed the Category-G title after defeating Isabella Ramjohn 11 – 5, 11 – 8 while Teija Edwards beat Beau Fernandes 16 – 14, 11 – 9.
In the Category-H section, Elan Rahaman defeated Rayden Persaud 11- 9, 5 – 11, 11 – 3 to clinch the division while Rayad Boyce bested Lucas Persaud 12 – 10, 11 – 9 in clinch the third spot.
In Category-I, Noah Rahaman was crowned the winner as he defeated Grant Fernandes 11-8, 4 – 11, 11-5. In the other matches of the section, Dhiren Persaud defeated Aishani Persaud 15 – 13, 6 – 11, 13 – 11 and Malia Maikoo downed Joshua Verwey Saul 11-7, 8 – 11, 11 – 8.
In the individual section of the presentation, Madison Fernandes and Michael Alphonso copped the Most Outstanding Girl and Boy award respectively while Kirsten Gomes and Alex Cheeks claimed the Most Improved Girl and Boy accolade correspondingly.
