One day after four men were charged with the murder of carpenter, Faiyaz Narinedatt, the Guyana Police Force yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for US based-Guyanese, Marcus Brian Bisram, who is said to be the mastermind and is wanted for questioning in connection with the crime.
Meanwhile, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News that although the police were alerted that Bisram is not in Guyana, a murder charge will be filed today against him and his bodyguard who was arrested in Berbice on Monday.
As a result, the four men, Radesh Motie, 39; Diodath Datt, 18; Harri Paul Parsram, 49, and Niran Yacoob, 37, who had appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and were charged with the murder will have the individual charges withdrawn against them and a joint charge will be instituted.
Blanhum had informed this newspaper on Tuesday that all efforts were being made to have Bisram returned to Guyana and the police had already contacted its counterparts in the US for access to him.
In a release issued yesterday afternoon, the police said that Bisram whose last known addresses were given as Lot 115 Section ‘A’ Number 70 Village Corentyne, Berbice and the United States of America is wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Narinedatt which occurred on November 01, 2016, at Number 70 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The police had initially detained seven persons for questioning last week, three of whom were released based on advice given by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Narinedatt was found lying lifeless on the Number 70 Village public road, Corentyne on November 1 with marks of violence about his body. Investigators were initially treating the matter as a hit and run death. However, relatives of Narinedatt pleaded with the police to further investigate the incident as they believed he was murdered, based on information provided to them by eyewitnesses.
On the eve of his death, Narinedatt had attended a party in Number 70 Village, which was hosted by Bisram, an overseas-based businessman, who allegedly made sexual advances towards him. Narinedatt reportedly rejected him and it is alleged that the businessman subsequently ordered his associates to kill the carpenter.
It is believed that the suspects, who were armed with several objects, dealt Narinedatt lashes about his body until he fell unconscious. His body was then placed in the trunk of a car, driven to the Number 70 Village road and dumped.
A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from a fractured skull but had also sustained a fractured spine and other injuries.
During interrogation, two of the suspects provided detectives with written statements admitting their involvement in the crime. In addition, two detectives from Berbice were also detained for questioning, after they were accused of trying to cover up the matter. They both denied the allegation and have been released.
It was Narinedatt’s family’s numerous calls for justice and their refusal to have ranks from ‘B’ Division investigate the matter which led to the intervention of the Major Crimes Unit from Georgetown.
Additionally, two women, Sharmila Inderjali, 45, who is Bisram’s mother, and Maryanna Lionel, 25, a bank teller, were jointly charged with corruptly offering $4 million to police officer Kamal Pitama on November 19, at Eve Leary, to forego charges against the quartet in custody for the murder and Bisram. They denied the allegation and were also remanded to prison.
