A 20- year old resident of Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek was on Monday charged with driving under the influence, failure to stop after an accident and failure to report to the police after he struck down three sexagenarians on Friday around 05: 20 hrs in Crabwood Creek.
Tirendra Totaram was fined $7500 for driving with a breath alcohol content of 125 micrograms, 90 over the legal limit; $25,000 for failure to stop and $25,000 for failure to report to police. He also had his licence suspended when he appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Totaram pleaded guilty to all three charges. He was then rearrested on other charges.
Meanwhile, according to information gathered, 60 year old Harrinarine Lakhan, Vidyawattie Adhari, 60 and George Beramsingh also known as ‘Quarters’, 66 all of Crabwood Creek were sitting on the rail of their concrete bridge some 20 feet away from the public road when Totaram, driving motor car PNN 7746, attempted to turn into the access road allegedly at a fast rate, lost control of the car and slammed into them. Totaram then exited his vehicle uninjured, locked his car and fled the scene.
The senior citizens who suffered injuries to their legs were rushed to the Skeldon Hospital but were later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Beramsingh’s left leg had to be amputated.
