Petra Organization in collaboration with Banks DIH Limited yesterday launched the highly anticipated Georgetown Zone of the seventh edition of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets football tournament which kicks off on Monday.
Speaking at the launching which was held at the Banks DIH boardroom, Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste, Petra’s co-director Troy Mendonca and co-sponsors Colours Boutique, were adamant that the competition would supersede the previous versions.
Baptiste thanked Colours Boutique, the co-sponsor of the tournament for providing uniforms for the teams. “This is the seventh year, and we are proud and satisfied with the work done,” said Baptiste, who added that football enthusiasts and fans can win big with promotions to be held during the competition.
Thirty-two teams will contest the first round which will be played on a knockout basis. The sixteen advancing teams will be placed in to four groups, and will then play on a round-robin basis, with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-finals.
“I’m glad to know our players have been making strides over the years”, said Mendonca, who added that it was good to be a part of the tourney for yet another year.
Venues for the tournament include the Cultural Centre Tarmac, East Ruimveldt Community Square, Demerara Park, Durban Park and the National Park.
