Guyanese are in for a treat come December 17 when the African Gospel Music Festival brings Africa to Guyana in music.
The PEKS Band, an African Gospel Praise Team will be visiting Guyana for the first time as a group to share through concert their diverse African cultures while praising God. The band is said to be the only African band in the Caribbean and members hail from Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa.
The African Gospel Music Festival 2016 brings to Guyana African gospel praise, dance, drama and comedy like never before seen, according to organisers.
At a recent press conference PEKS band member Peculiar Ihunwo said, “The most important thing, it’s not just African music; it’s African drama, dance and food. It’s a combination of Africa. African music represents harmony, that we trained ourselves for right from when we were little. Its different African countries bringing you an African blend of praise. Come December 17. Guyana don’t want to miss out on this.”
Also presenting will be some of Guyana’s finest artistes; one of whom is renowned gospel artiste Shawn English. “This is a cultural festival and is a good representation of what Africa can feel like instead of having to fly all the way to Africa.
My ambition is to give God praise through song and dance,” English said at the press conference
Seated among them also and out of Nigeria was Esther Ndubueze who added, “We want to bring you to a place where the atmosphere feels different. It’s gonna be a thick environment. We are creating a safe environment for you to practice your ‘Africanism’. This is not just an African thing but for every race in Guyana so come out. It’s gonna be exciting!”
The vibrant group promises not only a most spectacular and an unforgettable show but invites all to come and have a taste of Africa through their dishes.
In addition there will be an African Gospel Drama by RWCC & RCCG Potters House Drama Group. Other local performers are: Kester Deane, Melissa Vandeyar, Allan Petty Jr, Sean Sobers and Samuel Medas.
The concert starts at 6 pm promptly at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Tarmac. Tickets cost $1,000 and $1,500 at the gate.
