Fast-bowler Ronsford Beaton said he’s disappointed that he is not playing in the ongoing Regional 4-Day tournament, but hopes his recent limited overs form will help build a strong case for a national recall ahead of next year’s Regional Super 50 tournament.
The 24 year-old who has been a primary weapon in the Guyanese bowling department over recent times, was overlooked as part of the Jaguars first-choice plans for the 2016/17 Professional season. However, after being ignored, Beaton made use of his time by enjoying a decent stint with the Trinbago Knight Riders during the 2016 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
He was a part of the West Indies ‘A’ team which travelled to Sri Lanka back in October to play in an official test tournament. He regained some confidence and form during the tour, returning figures of; 3-26, 2-41, and 2-38 in the 50 over format, before being called up to play for the Dhaka Dynamites in the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The Guyanese speedster during an interview with Stabroek Sport, said that his sights are set on playing for Guyana, and he plans to use the form gathered from the West Indies ‘A’ tour and the BPL stint, to force his way back into the Jaguars fray.
“It’s always a privilege to play for your country, and I must say I’m disappointed after not playing in the Regional 4-Day tournament, but nevertheless, I have the opportunity to showcase my talent on a much larger stage, so I’m okay with it”, said the pacer.
“With my past performances in the West Indies A team, I don’t think it should be that hard for me to make my way back into the Jaguars team for the upcoming 50 over tournament”, he continued.
“Nevertheless, they have a coach and chairman of selectors who have their job to do, so I think it’s about me putting out the hard work and letting them do their job”.
A seasoned T20 bowler in his own right, the BPL, according to the Montserrat-born pacer, should do wonders for his form and career. “Going to the BPL, I’m looking to gain experience, because I think my team has a lot of experienced guys, so I’m looking to gain as much as I can, and impress”.
Wrapping up his interview with this newspaper, the Guyana Amazon Warriors bowler said that apart from T20s, he’s enjoys all the other formats of cricket and is excited about playing in Bangladesh with fellow West Indians, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell and Evin Lewis, an opportunity, which he will be grab with both hands.
