A mechanic, who allegedly shot at another individual, was yesterday released on $150,000 bail after denying the charge in a city court.
Leon Smart, 32, was brought before Magistrate Dylon Bess and read a charge which stated that on November 25, at Princes Street, he discharged a loaded firearm at Rajesh George with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, maim, disfigure or disable.
Smart pleaded not guilty.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, George told the magistrate that he no longer wished to go ahead with the matter. When asked why, George was unable to provide Magistrate Bess with a reason for his decision.
The complainant was then told that he would have to explain why he no longer wants to go ahead with the charge to the Chief Magistrate on December 5, when the matter would be called again.
Magistrate Bess then granted Smart $150,000 bail and ordered that he report to the Alberttown Police Station every Friday at 9am.
