Two men were yesterday granted bail on separate robbery charges when they appeared before a city magistrate.
Ryan Goodluck and Derrick Pickering both pleaded not guilty to their respective charges when they appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess.
It is alleged that Pickering, 22, of D’Urban Backlands, robbed Kevin Headley on September 15 at Puruni Landing of a quantity of ladies clothing, valued $200,000, $56,000 and a $40,000 Samsung Galaxy S5.
Pickering is also alleged to have wounded Seion Smith on October 10 at Puruni Landing.
He was later granted $150,000 bail on the robbery charge and $50,000 bail on the wounding charge.
Meanwhile, the charge against Goodluck stated that on October 29, at Campbellville, while armed with a gun and in company of another, he robbed Mandisa Cameron of a $60,000 Samsung Galaxy S5, $11,000 and a $3,000 purse.
Goodluck, 22, of Lot 928 Herstelling Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was represented by attorney Darren Wade, who made a bail application on behalf of his client while arguing that the man was not a flight risk.
Bail was, however, objected to by police prosecutor Christopher Morris, who cited the nature of the offence, the prevalence, the penalty it attracts and the fact that a gun was used.
According to the prosecutor, Cameron was walking along the roadway when the defendant, who was the pillion rider on a motorcycle, approached and robbed her of the articles mentioned in the charge.
Magistrate Bess granted the defendant $75,000 bail and ordered that he report to the Providence Police Station every Monday until the completion of the trial.
While Goodluck will make his next court appearance on December 19, Pickering is expected to appear before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on December 6.
