With only eight berths left for grabs in the group stage, the final elimination round in the 7th edition of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Zone starts today at the Demerara Park Parking Lot in Industrial Site.
Traditional showdowns alongside unfamiliar matchups will highlight the evening’s proceedings. In the opening match at 19:00hrs, Alexander Village will lock horns with newcomers Up Like-Seven from Sophia.
At 19:30hrs, 2014 champion North Ruimveldt will engage Jamoon Drive while 2008 and 2010 losing finalist Albouystown-A will lock horns with Upsetters from 20:00hrs.
Meanwhile, the East Ruimveldt derby will take centre stage at 20:30hrs when 2011 winner Back Circle faces off with East Front Road. The fifth affair at 21:00hrs will pit 2010 titlist Broad Street Bullies against Howes Street-A.
North East La Penitence will then match skills with Island All-Stars-B at 21:30hrs in the sixth showdown whilst Albouystown-B battles West Back Road from 22:00hrs in the penultimate fixture.
The matchup of the night at 22:30hrs will witness 2013 losing finalist against West Front Road-Gold is Money.
On another note, the teams that have already secured a berth in the group are defending champ Sparta Boss, 2013 champ Queen Street Tigerbay, 2012 winner Leopold Street, 2015 finalist Channel-9 Warriors, 2014 finalist Festival City Warriors, Bent Street, Camp Street All-Stars and Tucville.
Winner of the event will walk away with $500,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finisher will pocket $200,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively as well as the corresponding trophy.
