Mark Thompson, who is charged with murdering Brazilian miner, Jose Rodriguez De Oliveira, has been called upon to a lead a defence.
Justice James Bovell-Drakes, who is presiding over Thompson’s trial in the High Court, yesterday overruled a no-case submission made by defence attorney Peter Hugh.
After the judge handed down his ruling, attorney Latchmie Rahamat, who is also representing Thompson, was granted her request for an adjournment until Tuesday for her client to lead his defence.
The matter, which is being heard at the High Court in Georgetown, is set to commence at 9.15.
The allegation against Thompson, is that on August 7, 2010, at Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River, Essequibo Coast, he murdered De Oliveira.
The state’s case is being presented by Prosecutor Tamieka Clarke.
