A man is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was shot to his back late Thursday night after being robbed by three men.
Malvin Hooper, 39, of Shirley Field Ridley Square, who was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens, is currently in a stable condition.
The shooting occurred around 9.15pm. According to a police press statement, Hooper was in his bus at the Shell Service Station at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, making a purchase, when he was approached by three men. The men asked him to take them further up the East Coast and he agreed. However, the statement said that while they were in the vicinity of the Ocean View Conference Centre, at Liliendaal, the men pulled out their handguns and demanded that Hooper hand over his valuables.
Police said Hooper subsequently handed over his phone and cash. He was then told to exit his vehicle. However, after he refused to leave the vehicle, one of the men fired a shot to his back and the three robbers escaped.
