-five games settled by penalty shoot-outs
On an evening highlighted by five penalty shoot-out wins, Broad Street Bullies, defending champ Sparta Boss and Festival City Warriors clinched outright group victories when the 7th Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Zone football continued on Saturday.
2010 holder Broad Street Bullies battled past Bent Street by a 2-1 margin at the Burnham Court Tarmac, Parade Ground, Middle Street. Lennox Cort gave Broad Street the early lead in the second minute, scoring arguably the goal of the tournament in front of a massive crowd.
It was a goal that sent the venue into a frenzy, as the diminutive forward pushed the ball through the legs of the onrushing final defender in the middle of the field, before rifling his shot into the centre of the goal.
The star-studded Bent Street unit eventually grabbed the equalizer under fortuitous circumstances in the 20th minute as a powerful strike from the right side took a sharp deflection off a defender and rolled into the net.
However Jimmy Gravesande fashioned an immediate response two minutes onward, racing from his half to steal the ball off the defender on the right side of the field, before firing a first time shot while falling into the left corner of the net.
Sparta Boss defeated Channel-9 Warriors 1-0 in a repeat of last year’s final. Different year but the same result as, Dennis Edwards settled the result in the ninth minute, slotting into the roof of the net, after collecting a left side pass from Sheldon Shepherd following a two on one situation.
Festival City Warriors overcame Up Like-7 by a 2-1 score line. Daniel Favourite and Eon Alleyne were on target in the seventh and 15th minute for the winner. Scoring in the loss was Dwayne Lowe in the 25th minute.
