The Government Analyst Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) is currently reviewing a new label for the Wieting and Richter (W&R) Ltd, which had been using an illegal labels on its bottled water.
Stabroek News had reported that the W&R Ltd, a company that produces and bottles ‘Crystal Spring Natural Hydration H20’ had plastered a small sticker on the label on the bottle hiding a section that read: ‘Organically treated with Antinfek 10H by Dove Biotech.’
In addition to the company blocking a vital part of the label from consumers, Head of the GA-FDD Marlan Cole had also explained that since the label did not have the word ‘water’, it was not allowed to be on the market.
Speaking yesterday to Stabroek News, Cole explained that the company has since submitted a new label to the department to review. He said the GA-FDD was currently reviewing it and working along with the company to ensure it was fully registered with the department.
Additionally, Cole said, the GA-FDD was working to ensure that the company was not using Antinfek to treat the water.
Since the initial report was carried about the company illegally covering its labels, the bottled water has been removed from the market. Stabroek News checked at various supermarkets and shops where the water was usually sold but could not find it. Cole said W&R had assured the department that the water with the illegal labels had been pulled from the market.
