Despite not receiving justice after he was beaten and robbed almost a month ago, Boodram Manie says he has given up on the perpetrators being brought to justice.
Speaking with Stabroek News yesterday, Manie said he was called by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to visit the Brickdam Police Station where an identification parade was being held, in the hope that he would be able to identify the three armed perpetrators who beat and robbed him and his family on November 13. However, the man explained that since he was not able to see the faces of bandits during the attack, he chose not to attend the ID parade.
“Remember when them man de attack me, we didn’t see any of them. So it didn’t make sense…,” Manie stressed.
He said he was not expecting anything further to happen in the case, adding that even if the men were caught he was not likely to recover any of his money that was stolen.
Manie, Rohit Persaud and four others, including three children, were inside their yard in Mahaicony when they were robbed. According to Manie, his mother had died the day before and one of his cousins had visited to offer his condolences.
“We went in the yard for like two hours just sitting and talking and the gate was opened because he [his cousin] car was parked outside and nothing don’t really happen here so we didn’t have a reason to close the gate or even be on the lookout for anything,” Manie had said, while explaining that minutes after three gunmen stormed the yard and forced them to lay face-down on the ground.
The three men then took them into the lower flat where they tied up Persaud and the other man with the children who were in the room and took Manie upstairs where one of them continuously beat him while demanding money.
After Manie surrendered around $200,000 in cash and other items, the man ripped out the telephone line and tied him up before making his escape along with the two others.
Residents of the quiet community had related that the robbery was an isolated incident and they could not remember the last time something similar happened.
