Twenty four months for $500,000 theft from National School of Dance

A man was yesterday sentenced to 24 months imprisonment after admitting to stealing over $500,000 in items from the National School of Dance.

Magistrate Faith McGusty read two charges of larceny to Mahesh Sarjou, which stated that between November 28 and 29, at Thomas Lands, Georgetown, he broke and entered the National School of Dance, and stole a Dell central processing unit, a printer, a microwave, a power drill, and a Singer sewing machine. The items have a total value of $432,900.

It was also stated that between November 30 and December 1, Sarjou stole from the said building a DVD surround sound system, a pair of 20-pound dumb bells, a half bale of toilet paper, a 5-pound tin of  milk and a stand for a valve. These items have a total value of $76,795.

The defendant pleaded guilty to both crimes.

Sarjou requested that the Magistrate give him a lenient sentence since all he wants to do is serve his time, since he was caught by the police.

Prior to presenting her ruling, Magistrate McGusty stated that she took into consideration the fact that the defendant didn’t waste the Court’s time, his confession to the police, and his assistance to the police in the recovery of some of the items. She stated, however, that she also factored in the fact, that he treated the building as his personal home.

It was upon these bases that he was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment.
