The launch today of the Holiday Craft and Music Festival at the 76-77 Robb Street Courtyard Mall (opposite the Stabroek News) will kick off an initiative by a group comprising artists, craftspeople and musicians to attempt to create a longer-term creative space at a modest but potentially attractive downtown venue.
The seasonal ‘spin’ being put on the event as reflected in the symbolic lighting of a Christmas Tree later in the day is a prelude to what the organizers hope will be a longer-term, hopefully rewarding initiative to expose the work of local creative souls offering hand-made décor, art, craft and holiday gift items alongside music, food, drink.
The Holiday Arts, Craft and Music Festival is set to be staged at the weekend (Friday and Saturday), beginning today, between 10:00 hrs and 15:00 hrs and earlier this week a spokesperson for the organizers told Stabroek Business that the next few weekends will serve as a trial run for a more extended event the periodicity of which is yet to be determined.
Art, craft and holiday gift items aside, today’s event will feature musical offerings by the group Jammin With Everyone while tomorrow, patrons will be entertained by the group Jazz & Poetry on a Stool. Holiday Arts, Craft and Music Festival seeks to create an avenue through which the offerings emerging ‘creative spirits’ can be brought increasingly into the public limelight, realizing a measure of commercial patronage in the process. The organizers say that another hoped-for outcome would be the popularization of the Courtyard as a creative space that can become a popular locale for the display of such creativity.
