(Trinidad Express) The two men police were looking for in connection with the death of bank employee Shannon Banfield, were detained by police overnight.
Dale Seecharan and Matthew Maharaj are being questioned at a police station in Port of Spain.
Their photographs were shared by the police on Thursday afternoon, hours after Banfield’s body was discovered behind some boxes in the top floor warehouse of IAM and Company at Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.
Banfield was last known to have been at IAM and Company.
Police intend to question the employees and owner of the business, and obtain CCTV footage from Monday afternoon in order to track Banfield’s moments along Charlotte Street, and also the conduct of store employees.
Banfield, 20 of Cantaro Village, Santa Cruz was a customer service representative with Republic Bank Port of Spain. She had been employed there for three months.
At 4p.m on Monday she telephoned her mother to say she would be visiting Pennywise Cosmetics and IAM and Company at Charlotte Street while she awaited her mother Sherry-Ann Lopez to pick her up.
The mother told the Express that called her daughter a short while later to say she had to work late as an insurance agent, and Banfield was asked to travel home.
She never left Charlotte Street, or IAM and Company, is now appears.
Employees thought the smell of decomposition at the store was that of a dead rat and only on Thursday afternoon did they follow the scene to Banfield’s body. She was still in the uniform of the bank. Her clothing was torn. There were marks of violence. Her Pennywise shopping bars, and purse were nearby.
Police were told that two male employees had not been to work since Monday. An autopsy will determine today how Banfield died. It is not known if police made any attempt to find Banfield when she was reported missing on Monday night.
