Sita Nagamootoo, wife of Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, in collaboration with the Ralph Joseph Charity, held a Christmas party in Courtland Village, Corentyne which saw the attendance of over 250 children, from the Corentyne area.
The two and a half hours long programme entailed dancing, singing of carols, games, face painting, lunch and the distribution of toys. Music was provided by the Guyana Police Force band.
Mrs Nagamootoo captivated the children with an abridged version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and pleaded with them to be nothing like Scrooge. She told them this is the time to be generous and kind. “I want to leave a Christmas message with you. Christmas is a time for kindness, generosity, warmth, love and peace,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, who accompanied his wife to the party held at her former residence, said, “Brighter things are in store for Guyana” in the future. However, he urged those gathered to be thankful for whatever they were given. He further on thanked the Ralph Joseph Charity for always giving back to their community and making the Christmas party an annual event, while noting that the party was also held last year.
Also present at the Christmas party were Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan along with his wife, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin and Member of Parliament Charandass Persaud.
Minister Ramjattan in a very brief speech urged affluent persons in society to spread joy in their respective communities during the holiday season and also year round, by giving to the less fortunate.
