A 42-year-old man was on Friday granted bail by a city magistrate after he was accused of fraudulently converting over $2 million in fish to his own use.
Navendra Sarwan was read a charge by Magistrate Faith McGusty which alleged that on March 7, 2015 at Georgetown with intent to defraud he obtained from Darshanand Rooplal 14,761 pounds of banga mary fish valued at $2,675,000.
Sarwan of Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The prosecutor made no objection to bail but requested that it be substantial to ensure the defendants return to court.
Magistrate McGusty subsequently granted the defendant $150,000 bail and adjourned the matter to December 21 when it will be heard by the Chief Magistrate.
