A City Constable who sustained several stab wounds last night is being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Constable Ragland Williams, 52, of 704 East Ruimveldt Front Road was providing security at the Merriman Mall Children’s Play park when he was stabbed to the shoulder and chest by an unidentified male.
Stabroek News photographer, Keno George who was conducting a photo shoot in the play area around 10 pm was approached by Williams who related the incident to him.
In an attempt to seek help George travelled to the Alberttown Police Station and reported the incident. George and his colleagues were then forced to provide transportation to the investigating rank though a police car was parked outside.
In relating the incident, he explained “when we drive up there three officers were in a car outside. We walk up to them and they say we got to go inside cause they not dealing with that. Go inside and they got one police at the desk. Tell him the story and he say he gonna send somebody so we waiting to see who he sending but next thing you know he on his phone talking to he girl. I say bossman wha happening? and is then he ask us for a drop. I say how you need a drop and dey got a car park outside?”
After the ranks in the car again refused to investigate the matter George provided transportation to the officer who went with them to the Mall.
By this time Williams was covered in blood and a decision was made to take him to the hospital.
Once again, according to George the service provided was less than the best.
“We come in and they say put him on the bench. Next thing you know the man there for 10 minutes and nobody ain’t look in he direction. I had to get up and ask the security if she ain’t see a pool of blood forming under this man and if they gonna let he bleed to death right in de hospital,” George related.
It was only after George made this request that Williams was examined and admitted for treatment.
