Ranks of the Guyana Police Force are investigating a robbery under arms committed on an employee of the Tower Suites on Main Street, Georgetown at 1230h today, by two males, who have since been apprehended by the police.
Enquiries, police say, disclosed that the employee who is an accountant with the hotel, had just returned from making a substantial withdrawal from a city bank. The accountant was about to disembark his vehicle in front of the hotel, when he was approached by one of the suspects, who discharged a round from a firearm, which struck a security guard who was also in the vehicle to his abdomen, broke a window and snatched a bag containing the cash and escaped on a waiting motorcycle, the police said.
The injured guard was rushed to a private hospital where he was treated for his injuries and admitted in a stable condition.
The police say that a mobile patrol acting on information received pursued the suspects, who tried to elude the lawmen and ended up in the Sussex Street Canal in the vicinity of North East La Penitence.
The motorcycle and a significant amount of cash were recovered. One of the suspects admitted to dropping the firearm in the canal, the police said.
