O’Neil Ally, who allegedly robbed unarmed policemen while they were assisting in an investigation, was yesterday remanded to prison by a city magistrate after he was charged with three counts of armed robbery.
It was alleged that on December 9, at Georgetown, in the company of another and armed with a gun, Ally robbed Gary Gordon of a cellphone, an identification card and a wallet, which were valued altogether at $113,170.
It is also alleged that on the same date, while armed with a gun, he robbed Eon George of a car key and remote, valued $25,000.
The final charge read to Ally stated that he robbed Elvin Parkinson of two cellphones, a wallet and $20,000. These items had a total value of $77,000.
The 21-year-old Ally, who is a porter, pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read by Magistrate Dylon Bess.
Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris objected to bail based on the seriousness of the crime, the penalty it attracts and the fact that a gun was used. He told the court that the defendant was also positively identified by the complainants during an identification parade.
Ally was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to December 27.
Police had said that two unarmed ranks had been retrieving video footage at a business location in Georgetown as part of an ongoing investigation when two identifiable males approached and relieved them and the proprietor of a number of valuables, inclusive of their cellular phones and a wallet, after which they escaped on a motorcycle. Shortly after, a police statement said, acting on information, ranks apprehended a male suspect at Middle Dam, East La Penitence, with a haversack containing two cell phones belonging to the proprietor, a bank card, an identification card and a wallet belonging to one of the ranks.
