The establishment of a parking lot by Teleperformance Call Centre has coincided with the installation of parking meters around the city, according to a company official.
The official, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News that the decision was taken to establish a parking lot due to the high number of workers employed at the headquarters at Camp and Robb streets.
She explained that since the setting up of the business, it has been searching for vacant space to provide secure parking for employees.
She noted that they had been in negotiations with the owner of the plot of land at the corners of North Road and Camp Street, where works for the parking lot are currently ongoing.
When asked if permission was granted by the City Council for the establishment of the parking lot, she said yes, while adding that the company has followed all protocols.
City Engineer Colvern Venture told Stabroek News that an application was made to the city engineer’s department for construction works on the vacant lot. He could not recall offhand if the application was filed on behalf of the owner of the land or Teleperformance Inc.
Meanwhile, the official explained that within a few weeks the parking lot would be ready for use.
