Dear Editor,
I fully endorse the suggestion by Oscar Ramjeet as outlined in Monday’s Stabroek News’ that the Commentators’ Box at Providence Stadium should be named in honour of Reds Perreira, that icon of cricket commentators and son of the soil, who retired at the conclusion of the four day game between Guyana and Barbados.
What a small but fitting and glowing tribute that would be for one who gave so much not only to the game, but to the country.
It is hoped the powers that be would see the wisdom in the suggestion and take steps to give effect to it.
The opportunity is taken to wish Mr Perreira all the best in retirement.
Incidentally, Editor, whatever became of the suggestion made some time ago of naming the various stands at the Stadium after our many illustrious cricketers both past and present? In the words of that very famous and thought provoking song: Where are our heroes Guyana?
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
