Tuesday, December 27th 2016 and Monday, January 2rd 2017 will be public holidays, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan confirmed last evening.
“Yes, the Tuesday after Boxing Day, that’s the 27th of December, will be a national holiday. The same will be for the 2nd of January…because it is the law,” Ramjattan replied when asked by Stabroek News.
Christmas this year falls on a Sunday and so the holiday will be observed on December 26. This means that Boxing Day will be observed on December 27th while New Year’s Day will also be a Sunday and thus the holiday will be observed on Monday.
