Dear Editor,
I feel compelled to write this letter after reading Dave Martins’ column ‘Racism cannot hide’ (Sunday Stabroek, December 11).
I feel that I must point out that racists tend to, figuratively speaking, burn bridges between people of different races instead of mending relationships between different races. I would also like to point out that a closet racist can hide their true colours by pretending to fight racism.
Whether we use the ‘Creation’ as our guide or Darwin’s evolution as a guide, we all will have a common ancestor. Heritage is about one’s ancestor. One’s ancestor is about one’s family. Having a common ancestor makes us all family. It is like the song says, “We are family”.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori
