Two cocaine traffickers were on Thursday night and yesterday afternoon busted by agents of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri as they attempted to smuggle cocaine to Bermuda and the United States.
Head of CANU James Singh confirmed the busts to Stabroek News.
Thursday’s find by CANU came through routine searches of the suitcases of a 30-year-old West Coast of Demerara resident.
Some 1.5 kilogrammes of cocaine were found stashed in false walls of the man’s checked luggage. He was booked to travel to Bermuda via New York.
The 30-year-old says that he is operates a graphic design business in his home village.
Then yesterday, a 47-year-old man who hails from Plaisance, East Coast of Demerara was found with a little over 1 kilo of liquid cocaine in his luggage. He was set to travel to New York on board a Caribbean Airlines aircraft.
He is the brother of another man who was also held for cocaine possession earlier this year.
Both men are being questioned as investigations continue.
