Tower Suites armed robbery suspect admits to four other robberies

One of the two suspects who were captured on Wednesday following the robbery of Tower Suites employees has admitted to having committed four other robberies.

Stabroek News gathered that during investigations, the suspect told police he was involved in two robberies committed on customers leaving Republic Bank on Water Street and two robberies of fruit vendors on Oronoque and Church streets.

On Wednesday, one of the armed bandits had approached Tower Suites Accountant Baldeo Seegobin after he returned from Republic Bank, Water Street with $2.9 million.

Seegobin was still in the car and the front passenger side window was shattered to give the perpetrator access to the money bag. He then made off with his accomplice, who was waiting nearby on a motorcycle.

Following an identification parade, suspects Curtis Vasconcellos and Jason Howard were positively identified as the men who carried out the attack.

Vasconcellos, 23, of Albouystown and Howard, 21, of Lot 250 East La Penitence, were captured on Wednesday afternoon after a high-speed chase involving police, who pursued the duo after being tipped off.

The two had attempted to evade law enforcement officers by jumping into a trench at East La Penitence Front Road.

Police sources related that Howard admitted to having been in possession of a firearm, but had claimed that it fell under water when he jumped into the trench.

Back in August 2015, the partners in crime were jointly charged with the attempted murder and robbery of businessman Neezam Khan.

According to the charge, the men had discharged a loaded firearm at Khan with intent to kill, while robbing him of a $200,000 gold chain and a $500,000 gold ring, on June 6, at Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

In September, they were committed to stand trial after Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ruled that there was enough evidence to establish a prima facie case.
