Indian lawyer and business executive Dr. V.R.S. Sampath visited Guyana last week and held talks with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and key government and private sector officials and has committed to returning here next year with a team of investors.
A release yesterday from the Prime Minister’s office said that Dr. Sampath, from the state of Tamil Nadu, is the President of the Madras Development Society and founder of the World Tamils Economic Foundation.
During his trip, the release said that Dr. Sampath held talks with government ministers, the Private Sector Commission and the University of Guyana. He had signalled strong interest in investments in the rice, sugar, granite and ICT sectors and also in the setting up of a medical school and hospital in Guyana.
His visit follows Nagamootoo’s attendance at the World Tamils Economic Conference in Chennai, India during October last.
On Thursday last, the release said that the Tamil Nadu advocate met with Vice-Presidents Carl Greenidge and Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin and Minister of Agriculture Noel Holder along with other ministers at Parliament Buildings.
He was also chief guest at a reception on Friday evening at the residence of the Prime Minister.
Dr. Sampath, the release said has committed to returning to Guyana in the first quarter of 2017 with a team of investors to further pursue investment opportunities.
During his one week mission he also visited Berbice where he looked at investment potential in the agricultural sector.
