Dear Editor,
Kudos to the President and executive of the Guyana Boxing Association for a job well done. Winning the Caribbean Boxing Championship has indeed made Guyana proud and underlines that boxing, which has given us our only Olympic medal, has the potential to secure more of the same.
A special congratulation to President Steve Ninvalle for having the tenacity to complete the 100 mile walk which raised funds to send the boxers to Barbados. I would hope that other sport administrators take heed and stand ready to emulate if need be.
In my humble opinion the walk also underlined the plight of sports organizations in Guyana where the rule is that you must beg whenever there is an overseas tour. With the exception of cricket and football, almost all other sports disciplines are forced to go this route.
I wish to end by commending those special persons who only found it fit to turn up at the airport when the triumphant team returned.
Your love and concern for sport was highlighted. The more things change the more they remain the same.
Yours faithfully,
Ronald Trim
