Police on the West Bank Demerara are currently investigating a robbery committed on the New World Supermarket, a Chinese-owned business located at Independence Street, La Grange last Friday, allegedly by three armed bandits.
According to Divisional Commander Leslie James, three men, armed with hand guns entered the premises and demanded valuables just around 6.20 pm on Friday.
He further related that one of the men, who was masked, proceeded to close the shutters of the business establishment while the other two physically assaulted the business owner and his wife.
The men reportedly carted off a quantity of clothing and phone cards, a DVR and an estimated $300,000, fleeing in a waiting car.
The matter was reported to the La Grange Police Station and the couple was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and sent away. The supermarket has been in operation less than two months.
