Dynamic Airways went back into action on Monday, after it left 600 passengers stranded at the Cheddi Jagan and John F. Kennedy International Airports over the weekend due to cancellation of flights after two of its planes had experienced problems.
Local representative of Dynamic Airways, Captain Gerry Gouveia yesterday told Stabroek News that flights to and from Georgetown and New York are running to ensure passengers get to their respective destinations. He said that that the first flight since the delays landed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Monday night. He also added that yesterday’s flights were on schedule since a flight from JFK came in to CJIA at 4:35pm and was expected to leave later in the afternoon.
Gouveia, when asked if flights are back on schedule, said that the airline is “getting there” as there are still some persons who have not made it to their destinations. However, he noted that that by today flights should be normalised.
Days after the flights were cancelled, the Captain held a press conference on Monday where he noted that flights scheduled for Saturday and Sunday were cancelled after mechanical problems arose with one of the planes. He explained that the backup aircraft that had been stationed at JFK in case of an emergency had been in an accident involving a truck and was also out of service. Meanwhile the second plane after doing three flights into Guyana also experienced mechanical difficulties and took longer than anticipated to be fixed.
