A 27- year old cattle farmer left the High Court last week Tuesday a free man, after a no-case submission was upheld by Justice William Ramlal.
However, before leaving, he was warned by Justice Ramlal to stay away from trouble. Romel Sanichar, 27, of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne was charged with murdering 41- year old Karamchan Jageshar, also known as ‘Gango’, a father of four in March of 2015.
The court was told that there had been a heated argument at a liquor bar between Sanichar and Jageshar, during which the latter was killed. The accused who also owns a trucking service, was represented by attorneys-at-law, Mursalene Bacchus, Kim Kyte and Tanya Warren Clements. While the state’s case was presented by State Prosecutor Orinthia Schmidt.
The defence attorneys argued that there was no clear case against Sanichar, and as such, he should be found not guilty. Justice Ramlal, after listening to both sides, upheld the no-case submission and told the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty.
On Monday March 16, 2015, a heated argument between the two men had led to the death of the father of four. Stabroek News had previously reported that the argument was supposedly in relation to a horse race meeting which had taken place the previous day.
The argument escalated and Jageshar sustained several incised slashes to his stomach. The autopsy found that Jageshar had died as a result of shock and haemorrhage, due to the multiple incised wounds.
