Exciting doubleheader set for Leonora today

With only fourth berths remaining in the quarterfinal round, the round of 16 stage of the Stag Nations Cup will resume today at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora with an exciting doubleheader.

In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Pouderoyen FC will oppose East Coast of Demerara unit Mahaica Determinators. The West Demerara unit will start as the favourite due to the home field advantage.

The Travis Best-coached unit possesses a wealth of talent with the Harding brothers, Anthony and Ashley, Dwayne St. Kitts, Morgan Denny, Kayode King, Marvin Frank, Denzil Boyce, Quessey Alleyne, Esan Nelson and Sherwin Bernard in their lineup.

For Mahaica, a win against a seasoned and battle hardened unit will serve them in good stead heading into the final eight round.

Much will be expected from the Roberts brothers, Kirk and Azumah, the Abel siblings Eion and Ewart, Shameer Nazir, Michael Amsterdam, Travis Charles, Devon Charles, Curtley Adams and Devon Harris, if a win is to be realised.

In the feature fixture at 20:00hrs, West Demerara unit Uitvlugt Warriors will lock horns with Georgetown’s Northern Rangers.

Although this is the first game for the emerging Uitvlugt unit, they will fancy their chances of securing the desired result with the likes of Lerone Jacobs, brothers Kevin and Keyon Duke, Jamal Petty, Carisle Carryol, Alex Moore, Denzil Smith, Daniel Floyd and Jermaine Accra in their lineup.

On the other hand, Northern Rangers are in a confident mood following their 7-0 drubbing of Young Achievers in the playoff round.

They will look to their strike force of Steven Sankar, Telfon Daley, Devon Caesar, Stephon Reynolds, Colin Clark and Sunil Logan to power them to another victory.

The event continues on Friday at the Diamond Ground. To date, Western Tigers, Santos, the Guyana Police Force and Riddim have already sealed their berth to the final eight section.
