Three time defending champion Winners Connection downed Botofago while Eagles clawed past Kwakwani Strikers on Wednesday to secure group wins in the 4th Annual Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA)/GT Beer Championship. Winners Connection defeated Botofago 2-0 at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) in Linden. Rawle Gittens and Keon Sears found the back of the net in the 12th and 56th minute, correspondingly.
Meanwhile, Eagles overcame Kwakwani Strikers 1-0. Yonnick Simon was the difference on the evening as, he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 53rd minute.
In terms of the standings, Silver Shattas sit at the summit of group-A with nine points from three matches, while Kwakwani Strikers are positioned on six points from their four fixtures. Eagles United possess four points from three matches, while Milerock has three points from three fixtures and Netrockers are on a point from three matches.
On the other hand, Winners Connection head group-B with nine points from four matches, while Hi-Stars and Botofago currently sit on six points each from three matches. Amelia’s Ward Panthers sit on three points from as many matches and Blueberry Hill are yet to come off the mark following three fixtures.
The group round resumes tomorrow at the same venue. In the opening match at 18:00hrs, Blueberry Hill will oppose Amelia’s Ward Panthers while Milerock will lock horns with Net-rockers from 20:00hrs in the feature contest.
