A son was yesterday placed before the court by his father after he allegedly changed the registration of his father’s car into his name.
Kofi Longhorne, 33, of 172 Samatta Point, Grove, East Bank Demerara, yesterday pleaded not guilty. The charge against him stated that on February 2, 2010, at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he conspired with persons known and unknown to forge the registration of motor car PJJ 9720 property of Fidel and Cheryl Longhorne, to show himself as the registered owner of the car knowing same to be false. The charge was read to Longhorne by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to the accused being granted bail. Jones told the court that Fidel Longhorne was the father of the defendant. The prosecutor explained to the court that while Fidel was in the United States of America, his son asked to borrow the car. Jones said the father agreed to lend his car to the accused. However, when the virtual complainant returned from the USA and collected his car, he discovered that the registration was changed to his son’s name.
The prosecutor said that the virtual complainant made a report to the police, that he never gave the defendant permission to change the registered name on the car.
Magistrate McLennan granted the accused $150,000 bail. His matter was adjourned until January 10 when it will be called in Court 12, during its nightly proceedings.
