It is with great sadness the ANSA Caribbean Awards for Excellence conveys news of the passing of Sir K Dwight Venner, former Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, and a member of our Regional Eminent Persons Panel. Sir Dwight passed early in the morning of December 23.
He was an exemplar with whom the Caribbean Awards for Excellence was proud to have been associated. He served as a member of the EPP from its inception, representing the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.
Born in St Vincent & the Grenadines, Sir Dwight’s education (BSc and MSc, Economics) was acquired from the University of the West Indies, Mona, and his illustrious career spanned regional institutions. He also published widely in the areas of Monetary and International Economics, Central Banking, and Inter-national Economic Relations.
Before he became Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (1989-2015), he held positions as Fellow in the Institute of Social and Economic Research, Lecturer in Economics at UWI, Mona (1974-1981), and director of finance and planning for the government of St Lucia (1981-1989).
At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network, and a member of the Commis-sion for Growth and Development, World Bank. He was Chairman of the OECS Economic Union Task Force Committee, and the UWI Open Campus Council.
Sir Dwight was awarded the CBE in 1996 in St Lucia, recognized as a distinguished UWI graduate in 1998, and conferred with the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) from St Vincent & The Grenadines in 2001. The UWI honoured him with an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree in 2002.
The ANSA Caribbean Awards wishes his widow, Lynda Ann and their seven children, its heartfelt condolences.
