Come tomorrow, the final and probably most exciting horse race meet for the year will take place at Bush Lot Farm when the Kennard’s Memorial meet takes place.
The annual event has been in existence for over half a century, and is one of the more eagerly awaited event on the annual horse racing calendar maybe because of the fact that over $4.5m will be at stake.
The organisers have received support from a number of entities, with one, the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market being the latest to throw their weight behind the `King of Kings’ race meet.
Victor Sunich, brother of the popular Ramesh Sunich, CEO and proprietor of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, who operates a branch of the Trophy Stall in Canada, presented trophies for the champion jockey to Justice Cecil Kennard of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
Sunich has regularly donated the champion jockey trophy in memory of his father who was a jockey and horse racing enthusiast.
Some Eight races will take place with the feature event, the B and Lower W/A over a distance of nine furlongs, carrying the first place prize of $1,200,000.
This race has attracted the cream of the nation’s horses.
Other events billed for the day are the L class non winners for a first place prize of $130,000 while the E and Lower carries a first place prize of $500,000.
The race for the West Indies and Guyana bred horses carries a first prize of $250,000 while the same amount will go to the winner of the two years Guyana bred horses.
The L Open W/A has a first prize of $130,000, the G 1 and Lower, $280,000 and the J1 and Lower $180,000.
Races will be run under the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
The event is expected to get underway at 1pm.
