Three Canje drivers were admitted to the hospital after a three-vehicle smash-up on Monday night at Welfare Street, Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice. While the occupants are all stable, the cars are said to be in a terrible condition.
According to an eyewitness, one of the cars was going into Canje while the other two were coming out, when the car going in hit the lead car heading out. The eyewitness explained that the car going in then spun several times, hitting the second car coming out of Canje in the process. One of the drivers, who asked that his name be withheld, told Stabroek News yesterday morning, “I went to buy food and when we coming back the car just knock me car and me get blackout”.
The persons involved in the accident all hail from Canefield Settlement and Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice.
According to relatives, the driver of the car heading into Canje who is from Betsy Ground Village, sustained a broken leg and was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital early yesterday morning in order for a bone specialist to look at him. The other two drivers, who are from Canefield Settlement, remain patients at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Both are said to be in a stable condition. Relatives were somewhat reluctant to disclose information but stated that one driver sustained a hard hit to his shoulder, while the other sustained bruises about his body. One of the drivers’ wife, who was in the car at the time of the collision sustained a gash to her head. According to information gathered, there was an occupant in another car, however, he remained uninjured.
The men are all attached to the Rose Hall Estate.
