Pachira aquatica commonly called Chinese Money Tree originated in East Asia: Japan, Taiwan and China. It is also found in the wetlands of Central America.
Chinese Money Tree had long been popular in Japan as an ornamental plant. The Japanese also made the plant more popular by bonsai usage. In 1966, a Taiwanese truck driver first grew five small plants in a single pot with their trunks braided. This became very popular in Japan and the rest of East Asia.
Chinese Money Trees are symbolically associated with good luck and good fortune and are seen in many Chinese businesses and homes adorn with red ribbon or red auspicious ornaments attached.
Chinese Money Tree has broad elongated shiny green leaves. Plant in well drained potting soil. Place plant in an area with bright light but not direct sunlight.
This plant likes to be moist so make sure it gets a good drink of water once per week and mist leaves every other day. Fertilize with a light mixture of Miracle Gro All Purpose
Plant Food every two weeks.
