Three persons are now dead and three others including a foreign national are hospitalised following a head-on collision which occurred last evening along the Linden/Soesdyke High-way.
Two of the dead persons have been identified as Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri mechanic, Dextroy Griffith and taxi driver, Dave Primus of Amelia’s Ward, Linden while the other was unidentified up to press time.
Those injured are Griffith’s wife, Whitney Ann Griffith; Leron Mendonca, 22 of St. Vincent and Arletta Kellman, 47, of Lower Kara Kara, Mackenzie, Linden.
The accident occurred around 7pm at Loo Creek, Linden/Soesdyke High-way.
The Guyana Fire Service was summoned following the accident and firefighters had to cut the mangled vehicles open to free the bodies.
Griffith, Primus and the unidentified person died on the spot. The injured were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where they were admitted. Whitney’s condition was listed as critical.
Stabroek News understands that the vehicles, HC 5326 and PRR 7151 were travelling in opposite directions.
Griffith and his wife were passengers in motor vehicle, HC 5326 driven by Primus which was heading towards Linden.
Reports reaching this newspaper say that Primus allegedly overtook a truck resulting in him colliding head-on with motor vehicle, PRR 7151 which was being driven by the unidentified individual. Mendonca and Kellman were said to be occupants of PRR 7151.
At the time of the accident the roadway was wet since it was raining.
Griffith and Whitney who recently got married were returning home from work when tragedy struck. It is unclear where the persons in the other vehicle were heading.
Investigations are ongoing.
