The trial of Anjanie Boodnarine, the common-law wife of convicted drug trafficker Barry Dataram, for allegedly forging a passport, is set to begin today.
Boodnarine, who also faces charges of fleeing the jurisdiction and leaving the country illegally, will only stand trial before Magistrate Renita Singh for the charge which alleges that she conspired with others to commit a felony by forging a Guyana passport.
The matter was transferred by the Chief Magistrate to Magistrate Singh after the prosecution informed that a total of six witnesses, who were all present, will testify.
A new request for bail was made on behalf of Boodnarine by attorney Everton Singh- Lammy, who is appearing for her in association with attorney Glenn Hanoman. This request was denied by the magistrate and the matter was adjourned to today’s date.
